In our town there are so many characters that just about everyone has heard of or crossed paths with over the years. Here are 20 people from the Georgetown, SC area you probably know or know of:
1. Mayor Jay Doyle, our current mayor who stays busy with city projects and development talks.
2. Chief Nelson E. Brown, the longtime local officer who recently took the oath as police chief.
3. Beth Stedman from the Chamber of Commerce, the one behind so many of our festivals and events.
4. Karen Owens from GAB News, who seems to be everywhere covering meetings, games, and community happenings.
5. Captain Tommy Rivers, the veteran fishing guide who knows every creek and bay around here.
6. LaToya Forsythe, carrying on education work with kids in the spirit of Miss Ruby.
7. Warren Waters, the developer folks talk about when the old industrial sites come up.
8. Coach Mike Johnson Jr., keeping baseball strong for our youth teams.
9. Eileen Johnson, the school board member known for speaking up on education issues.
10. Mr. Rainey, the descendant who gives popular tours and shares Gullah-Geechee history.
11. Al Joseph, the Main Street director who organizes the boat show and art walks.
12. Dr. Jay Hinesley, leading Tidelands Health and serving our healthcare needs.
13. Sassy Sue at the post office, the familiar face who has helped generations with a kind word.
