The ghost of the forest… We know it’s only a quick glance at the trees before we zoom in, but are you able to spot what’s camouflaged in the distance?

What a sighting! 😍🤩 Last week, ETA Naturalist Steven Lubner had a seldom seen viewing of a mink while on tour.

“We were doing a short hike along side a creek in Grand Teton and noticed a some critter making a wake in the water. A mink! I see far fewer of these guys than grizzly bears. We watched this animal explore an old beaver dam for close to 10 minutes. The mink was actively hunting as we would lose sight of him and then see some fish frantically swim away. Eventually he caught a brook trout and dragged it to the other side of the creek. He had his prize in tow but somehow seemed to get spooked by something, dropped the fish, and then ultimately lost dinner. Lucky outcome for the trout!”

🤕Ouch, that had to hurt!

This bison likely acquired this injury during a battle for female courtship against another male. The rut (or mating season) can get very violent, and it’s not uncommon for animals to limp away from fights with injuries. While this wound looks bad, we suspect this guy is only temporarily slowed down — wildlife is pretty resilient!

More elk bugling content! We just can’t get enough of it!

ETA Naturalist Audrey fanjoy captured this bull elk staking his claim on a recent visit to Yellowstone’s Northern Range. Notice all the soil in his brow tines? That’s a result of thrashing at low-lying shrubs like sagebrush — a typical mating behavior!
