Our second day of our trip was our Animal Kingdom Day. We skipped the Lightning Lane Multipass for this day to save $300, and just got the Single Lightning Lane for Flight of Passage. To get in everything we wanted to do with minimal wait, we got to the park 30 minutes BEFORE Early Entry started. We went straight to Expedition Everest because this was at the top of the list for what we wanted to accomplish. They opened the park right at 7:30. We were riding by 7:39. Ethan and I rode it twice, but many of our kiddos ran back in to ride it a 3rd time as basically a walk on. After that, we headed to the Safari - got a Dole Whip Float on the way. :-) The Safari was definitely the longest wait of the day - maybe the trip? I'm not sure. We waited about 25 minutes. Not too bad - the line got up to 75 minutes later in the day. (Made a reel of our Safari, it was so good!) From the Safari we went immediately to the first Lion King show of the day at 10:00. Our Lightning Lane for FOP was from 9:45-10:45 so we headed straight there after the Lion King show. Thus getting all our "must dos" out of the way before lunch.

We ate lunch at because it is, in my opinion, truly one of the best quick service meals in the parks.

After that ya'll, I was pooped. I still had 15-hour-day-in-Magic-kingdom hangover. Our kids spent the afternoon in , but Ethan and I went back to our cabin for a nap. I think I was asleep before my head hit the pillow.

But we only napped an hour and headed back for our dinner reservation at . I think lots of our crew rode Expedition Everest a couple more times before the day ended.

Honestly, it was a really great day. The heat was surface of the sun. I think the heat index for our whole trip hovered around 100. We have NEVER gone to Disney in the May-August months. We are fall and winter Disney goers, so the heat was an adjustment. We made good use of cooling towels and drank gobs of water and Gatorade. :-)

Our Magic Kingdom Day was our first park day of our vacation. I did this on purpose because i knew our crew wanted to do ALL the things. This was an ambitious game plan. It would not be ideal for every group. It also wouldn't have worked for us two or three days in to park days. It is important to know your group and what you can handle. Part way through this day our littlest guy and his daddy went back to the resort for a couple of hours. But, as most of our group was 17+ and hadn't been together in the parks for a long time, I knew this first day we could go all day. πŸ™‚

We also could not have done nearly as much without a successful rope drop on early magic hours AND Lightning Lanes. For us, staying on property and buying Lightning Lanes are super important for getting the most from our trip.

Update: Ummmm. Also, on our way to Haunted Mansion, we also rode The Little Mermaid. πŸ™‚

We stayed in the fairly new cabins at for the first time on this trip.

Ft Wilderness Resort and Campground is a huge piece of property, about 750 acres. So huge in fact, that there is an internal bus system to get around the campground. You can also rent (or bring) golf carts. There is golf cart parking near the pools, buses and water taxi.

There are 3 ways to stay : tent camping, RV camping, and cabins. Our group stayed in 4 cabins. Each cabin has 1 bedroom with a Queen bed + bunkbeds and 1 pull down Murphy bed. There is a dining room table, a full stocked kitchen, an outdoor grill, and a deck with picnic table. Each cabin has one bathroom, and sink area outside the bathroom.

We grilled out one evening, and made a pot of macaroni and cheese for our big group (15). There was a very large pot big enough for what we needed, and other various sizes as well. There were utensils for cooking and eating. Very importantly there was a coffee pot and keurig as well as a dishwasher, full size fridge and full sized oven.

There were multiple playgrounds and pools and many activities for families around the campground.

We actually loved staying here. We cancelled our golf cart rental at the last minute because we just weren't going to be at the resort much. It was a good decision for this trip, but if we went again and had more time at the resort, we would love to have the convenience of the golf carts!

Have you stayed here!? What did you think of it?

Coffee on the corner of Hollywood Blvd and Sunset Blvd is always a 10/10!

After an early Rope Drop morning, coffee was a necessity for all of us.

Really.

Knowing the parks and helping you develop a workable plan for your Disney trip is what I do. Knowing your family and what they can handle is your part. For instance: I know my teen and adult children can handle a 15 hour Magic Kingdom day if they know next day is shorter, or the next day is a pool day. :)
