Halloweentown on Halloween. We spent the day in St. Helens, Oregon, where they filmed the Disney movie, and caught a pirate show with old ri**es and cannons firing.

Multnomah Falls in motion. Oregon’s tallest waterfall, all 620 feet of it, roaring through the Columbia River Gorge.
This is one of those places you have to hear as much as see. We travel to spots like this to capture them in photos and video, and to share the places that stop us in our tracks. That is the work we love, and the kind of travel creation we love doing with brands that fit the places we already visit.

Yesterday we lost a dear family friend. Taken from us far too soon, in a way none of us saw coming.

I keep coming back to this photo I took. A stairway winding up through the trees, into the light. It looks like a stairway to heaven, and I hope that is exactly where he is now. At peace, and whole again.

Life is so precious, and so fragile. Hold your people close, tell them what they mean to you, and do not wait for some perfect moment. This is the moment.

Rest easy, my friend. I hope I see you again one day.

Horsetail Falls in Oregon. A 176 foot cascade in the Columbia River Gorge, right off the Historic Columbia River Highway.
We travel to places like this to photograph and film them, and to tell the story of the trip in photos and video. That is the work we love doing, and the kind of travel creation we love doing with brands that fit the places we already visit.
Tips if you go: the lower falls are an easy short walk from the road, go early for quieter light and fewer people, bring a lens cloth for the mist, and keep to the marked paths near the cliffs.

Multnomah Falls in autumn — one of the best photos I've ever taken.

In the Columbia River Gorge, at 620 feet, it's Oregon's tallest waterfall, and in fall the whole gorge around it turns gold and orange.

Tips for visiting:
Go early. This spot gets busy fast, and early mornings mean fewer crowds and better views.
Walk up to Benson Bridge. It's a short paved trail, and that's the classic view right over the lower falls.
Expect mist. Bring a cloth for your lens and shoes with grip, the paths and leaves can be slick in autumn.

Slow shutter tip:
Use a tripod, no exceptions. Keep your ISO low, let the shutter stay open, and the water turns to silk instead of freezing mid-fall. Start around 1 second and adjust from there, and use a timer or remote so you're not shaking the camera when you press the shutter. Overcast autumn light actually helps here, it keeps the white water from blowing out.

This tree is literally shedding its skin.

At Washington Park in Portland, Oregon, the bark peels away in curls, leaving that smooth, almost creepy pale trunk underneath, with patches of old grey bark still hanging on.

Hard to beat autumn in the Pacific Northwest. 🍂

I’m not sure Oregon is the first place people think of when they think about fall colors, but we have some incredible pockets of color out here. You just have to know where to look.
