Summer has officially hit San Diego, and the downtown streets are flooding with crowds. If you are looking for an escape from the noise, step into the shadows with us.

We believe that true history and paranormal investigation require a very specific atmosphere. You simply cannot connect with the past if you are packed shoulder-to-shoulder on a busy public sidewalk, straining to hear a guide over the traffic.

Keeping our circles small allows us to do what massive walking groups cannot: we take you inside San Diego's oldest, most haunted buildings. We pull you off the chaotic streets, step over the threshold, and lock the heavy doors behind us.

In that dead silence, we put real K2 meters and motion balls in your hands, giving you the space to actually investigate.

Leave the crowds behind. Step inside and see what is waiting in the dark.

If you want to investigate the paranormal, you need dead silence.

One of the most fascinating pieces of gear we put in your hands is the Spirit Box. But how exactly does it work?

This device is built to sweep through AM and FM radio bands at incredibly high speeds—often jumping channels every 100 to 300 milliseconds. This rapid sweeping creates a constant, heavy bed of white noise. In the field of Instrumental TransCommunication (ITC), investigators believe that entities can manipulate this raw, acoustic energy to string together intelligent, real-time words or even full sentences in response to our questions.

But there is a major catch.

You cannot hear a whispered response through the static if you are standing on a noisy, crowded summer sidewalk. To actually hear what is coming through the radio waves, you need isolation.

Only in that silence can you turn on the gear, ask a question in the dark, and actually hear what comes back.

Sometimes the best paranormal evidence doesn't happen in the moment. It happens the next day when you are scrolling through your photos.

A guest recently sent us this selfie taken inside one of our locations. We will let them explain what they caught:

"I found one with a blue glow in the background. At first I thought it was coming from the street but it's definitely coming from in front of the curtains. I didn't feel anything that I noticed... Not my most flattering selfie but that isn't the point 😂 Kat was wonderful! Loved every second of her tour. Super engaging and entertaining."

This is exactly why we tell our guests to take as many pictures as possible in the dark!

We strictly refuse to use hidden lights, projectors, or fake jump scares. So when an unexplained blue glow appears out of nowhere in a room... we definitely pay attention.

A massive shoutout to our incredible Ghost Host, Kat, for delivering another 5-star experience! 🎭

Have you caught something unexplainable on a tour with us? Send it our way!

Have you ever walked into an old building and immediately felt an unexplainable, heavy energy?

It might not be a ghost trying to communicate with you. It might just be a recording.

In the paranormal investigation world, there is a concept called the "Stone Tape Theory." It suggests that extreme human emotions—terror, intense grief, or sudden trauma—can actually imprint themselves onto the physical environment. The original wood, brick, and limestone of historic buildings act like a magnetic cassette tape, permanently absorbing the energy of the 1800s.

When the atmospheric conditions are just right... the house simply presses "play."

This is why guests inside the Davis-Horton House sometimes hear the heavy thud of boots on an empty staircase, or catch the faint, residual scent of 19th-century medicine. It’s not always a conscious spirit. Sometimes, it’s an echo of San Diego's dark past, trapped in the architecture.

Want to see what the walls are playing tonight?

In the late 1800s, death was a constant, heavy presence in early San Diego. To cope with the harsh realities of the frontier, high society turned to a new obsession: Spiritualism.

Communicating with the other side wasn't just for occultists; it was a popular weekend parlor game. Wealthy Victorians would gather in darkened parlors, lock hands around a table, and wait for a knock on the wood, a sudden cold breeze, or a message from beyond.

They firmly believed that a single person wasn't enough to pierce the veil. You needed the focused, collective energy of an intimate, tight-knit circle to make contact.

They were exactly right. And it’s why we refuse to run our tours like the massive, out-of-town corporate chains.

Ready to step inside and add your energy to the circle?

Talk about a killer outfit. (Sorry, we couldn’t resist.) 😎

In the mid-1800s, as San Diego was growing from a rugged frontier into a bustling city, the wealthiest women in town wanted to show off the latest fashions. And the absolute hottest color on the market was a vibrant, stunning shade called "Paris Green."

There was just one tiny problem: the dye was created using massive amounts of arsenic.

Simply wearing these dresses in the San Diego heat would cause the toxic green dust to rub off, leading to severe illness, skin lesions, and sometimes death for the wearer—not to mention the horrific working conditions for the poor seamstresses who sewed them. It brings a whole new, grim meaning to the phrase "fashion victim."

We know exactly what was hiding in their closets... and who is still haunting our historic homes.

We are honoring the fierce matriarchs who built San Diego. Women in the 1800s didn't have it easy—especially mothers like Anna Whaley.

Anna survived fires, frontier lawlessness, and heart-shattering family tragedies inside her Old Town home. Through it all, she was known as the ultimate, iron-willed protector of her family.

In fact... history suggests she still is.

Is she still watching over the property? Still keeping an eye on the neighborhood she helped build?

We’ll share the rest of her incredible, tragic story on our Old Town tours. We don't just point at the buildings; we tell you the real history of the people who lived, fought, and died inside them.

Mom said she wanted "quality time" for Mother's Day. So you bought her a candle and booked a crowded brunch reservation? Predictable. 🥱

If you really want to be the favorite child this year, it’s time to switch it up. Nothing says "I love you" quite like locking arms in the pitch black of the Davis-Horton House, waiting to see if the spirits decide to reach out.

Instead of awkward small talk over mimosas, you could be laughing at our Ghost Host’s terrible 80s action-hero puns and learning the dark, gritty history of San Diego from the locals who know it best.

Give Mom an experience she’ll literally never forget. (And hey, if she gets scared, she can always hide behind you).
