Brown Pelicans are often seen along our coastlines, dramatically diving into the water from up to 60 feet up! The adults develop white and yellow heads with dark brown down the back of their necks in breeding season. Juveniles, like this one, are a drab grey/cream color.

It’s Manatee Monday! Historically, manatees were thought to lack intelligence, but more recent science is proving that they are smarter than we thought! Manatees in captivity are able to learn tricks, they seem to have a good memory of their favorite places, and they appear to have layered social behaviors. Who knows what science will continue to uncover!

Otter-ly amazing! This video was captured off Wildlife Drive recently by our Toll Booth attendant! This is an adult River Otter, one of our native species on the island. While they may look adorable, make sure to give them plenty of space! Have you ever spotted one on Sanibel?
