Human Error: Occasionally, immigration officers may inadvertently stamp the wrong date.

Overstay Penalties: Correcting a stamp while still at the airport is much easier than fixing it after you have officially entered the country.

If you are planning a visa run to Lao Bao border, Laos (Quang Tri province), be prepared for a longer journey than the usual Cau Treo route. Lao Bao is a popular choice because it is a major international gate with well-established procedures for E-visas and foreigners can get Laos visa on arrival.

1. The Route: Hanoi ↔ Lao Bao
Departure: Buses usually leave from Nuoc Ngam Bus Station or we offer pick-ups in the Old Quarter around 15:00 – 16:00.

Departure Time: The main sleeper buses depart between 17:00 and 18:00.

Travel Time: ~13 hours.

Arrival: You will arrive at the Lao Bao border around 07:00 AM the next morning, just as the gates open.

2. The Visa Process (The "Run")
Exit Vietnam: Get your exit stamp at the Vietnam side.

Enter Laos (Densavan): Walk across to the Laos side (Densavan).

Visa on Arrival (VOA): Available for most nationalities (~$35–$50 USD + 2 photos).

Exemptions: Many Southeast Asian and some European passports are exempt.

Exit Laos: Immediately get your exit stamp from the Laos side.

Re-enter Vietnam: Return to the Vietnam side to activate your new E-visa/ We offer Vietnam Evisa fast service to get the bus back just on time.

3. Return Trip
Departure from Border: Buses heading back to Hanoi usually depart the Lao Bao area between 14:00 and 15:00.

Arrival in Hanoi: You will arrive back in Hanoi the following morning around 04:00 – 05:00 AM. Finish trip there.
