MOUNTAIN UPDATE

The bad news: Pinnacle Road on Kunanyi/Mt Wellington above The Springs will be closed to traffic this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as well as the following Monday and Tuesday.

The good news: We plan on keeping the road open to the summit over the weekend as well as all tracks and trails within Wellington Park.

WHY?

Every year we carry out critical maintenance on Pinnacle Road in Wellington Park to prepare for winter and the peak tourist season that follows.

These road works have been scheduled outside of peak visitor times (after Easter and school holidays) and will include patching and re-sealing degraded road surfaces in the final 1.5 km stretch to the summit.

To ensure the safety of the public and contractors Pinnacle Road will be closed above The Springs from Wednesday 30 April to Friday 2 May. Open on the weekend – weather permitting - and closed for road works again on Monday and Tuesday – 5-6 May.

If possible we will re-open the road earlier.

It is only the road above The Springs that will be closed - the mountain's tracks and trails and visitor facilities remain open.

All walking and bike tracks on Kunanyi/Mt Wellington will remain open, but for safety reasons cyclists and pedestrians will not be allowed on Pinnacle Road where it is closed for maintenance.
