Hummingbird is out of the water at Largs Yacht Haven for the next month or so for some TLC before heading on south towards Las Palmas for the ARC Atlantic Rally for Cruisers !

𝗣𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟴

How's your Sunday? Another stunning weekend in Svalbard - undoubtedly one of the most beautiful, awe inspiring places we sail to in the world. Although we are not back here in 2027 as we rotate the schedule, we will be back in 2028. We wish we could do more availability but are limited to the following expeditions: from Norway to Svalbard (July 18-29 2028) two west coast Svalbard expeditions (August 01-11 and August15-25) and the expedition back to Iceland, via Jan Mayan (August 29-September 09) (all dates approximate but will be very close).

Due to huge demand we are now opening pre registration. Email us at 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼@𝗿𝘂𝗯𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗻𝟯𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲.𝗰𝗼𝗺 stating which expedition you would like to be on for a link to reserve your place. Bring a friend, bring a group - but this will have to be a strictly first come first served process

Starling and her crew have been working her way around the Channel Islands, with a wonderful visit to Sark. We anchored under the cliffs, had dinghy runs into the sea caves, and walks up onto the headlands and along the lanes, followed by a swim off the beach in the hot sun. Next, we'll be anchoring off Guernsey to catch the Perseid meteor shower.

Bluejay is still deep in Svalbard. We sailed from Ny-Ålesund into John's Fjord, with a pod of fifty or more belugas and a couple of walruses hauled out at Poolepynten on the way. There was snow on the deck and the temp was down at one to three degrees, then the crew went ashore at Gjertsenodden for a hike across the tundra below the glacier. It's (very) cold, absolutely quiet, and about as far north as sailing gets. What an adventure!

Bluejay in Northwest Spitsbergen on our The Polar Wild: Exploring Svalbard expedition. The crew have sailed the last two days without the engine, and when they were offered a stop ashore they chose to keep sailing instead. Today it is a 64 mile leg to Signehamna, though sadly motorsailing now the wind has dropped away. Freezing cold, snowing, but utterly spectacular. What a place!

Three boats, three very different days this week.

Bluejay is in Svalbard. Three degrees, a cold northerly, snow on the hills. A watch on deck, a walk ashore at Virgohamna between the snow showers, and pancakes below.

Starling is in the Channel Islands in the sun. Alderney a few days ago, Sark last night, back out sailing this morning.

Hummingbird has crossed from Greenland to Iceland, and will soon head on for St Kilda and Scotland.

All three sailed by crew who came to take part, not to sit back.

This iconic twelve-day Passage Making Masterclass from Rubicon 3 is designed to turn half-remembered theory into real confidence at sea.

Sailing from Oban, Scotland to Falmouth, England, you will train with Rubicon 3’s expert expedition skippers on a proper coastal and offshore route down the west coast of Britain.

You will plan passages, work with changing forecasts, stand night watches, use radar and AIS, reef as conditions build, manage tides around major headlands and take an active role in the decisions that keep the boat and crew moving safely.

The training is practical, hands-on and continuous. Our skippers will coach you through each stage, explain how they assess conditions and gradually give you more responsibility as your confidence grows.

By the time you reach Falmouth, your Day Skipper, ASA 104 or similar qualification will feel far more relevant, supported by twelve days of real passage-making experience.

Most people join solo, and there is usually a good mix of ages, men and women aboard.
