The MOVEMENT Dance Seminar concluded today, it brought together partners, practitioners and stakeholders from Namibia’s dance and wider cultural sector for three days of reflections and practical discussions on the development of dance in Namibia.
Officially opened by the Ambassador of France to Namibia H.E Cécile Vigneau, with the presence of the Director of the Arts of MEIYSAC - M’Kariko Amagulu, the seminar explored the role of dance within the creative and cultural industries, while drawing on French experiences and examining the realities, opportunities and needs of Namibia’s dance sector.
Across the three days, discussions focused on dance infrastructure, fundraising, festival development, partnerships, audience development and sustainable ways of strengthening the sector beyond Windhoek.
The seminar also looked towards the future, with partners working together on ideas for a 2027 dance festival or season, a roadmap for the development of the sector, stronger networks and new partnerships both locally and internationally.
The programme brought together voices and expertise from Namibia and France, including the French Ministry of Culture, CNDC La Réunion, COTA, FNCC, National Theatre of Namibia, Equipped Dance Academy, Club 3.2.1, University of Namibia, OYO Dance Troupe and partners across Namibia’s cultural sector.
The three-day seminar concluded with the presentation of key outcomes, ideas, commitments and perspectives, marking an important step towards continued collaboration and the strengthening of Namibia’s dance ecosystem.
