Nadine Mckenzie is an award winning performing artist, one of Unmute Dance Theatre company co-founders, a director as well the festival director of ArtsAbility (South Africa)

Born in South Africa, her journey with dance started when she was 11 years old. Professionally, she started to dance at the age of 18. She is a qualified integrated dance facilitator, receiving her teacher’s training from pioneer inclusive dance teacher Alito Alessi.

In 2013, so co-founded Unmute Dance Theatre with Themba Mbuli, Andile Vellem and Mpotseng Shuping. The mission of Unmute Dance Theatre is to inspire the inclusion of people with disabilities within mainstream society through performances, workshops, and exchange programmes that foster activism, integration, and accessibility. A look back at last night's opening of our latest group exhibition, bringing together the work of Dee Conradie, Cassio Canza, Ryan Dillon De Wee, and Isaac Francisco.

Working across photography, digital art, drawing, and mixed media, the four artists offer distinct perspectives on how personal experiences, memories, and observations can be transformed into visual language. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening and the conversations that followed.

📢 Due to popular demand, the exhibition has been extended until 3 July.

Our next event will be the Group Art Talk on Thursday, 18 June, at 6:00 PM, in the presence of the artists. Join us for an opportunity to learn more about their practices, inspirations, and the works presented in the exhibition.

The gallery is open Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

EN : After the successful organization of International Jazz Day on April 30 (FNCC, Windhoek) and May 1 (St Joseph sport field, Rehoboth), the FNCC – Franco Namibian Cultural Centre congratulates the 4 interns: Silvanus Ashimbanga, Olivia Jonas, Anne Mukasa, and Beverly Naris. They participated in a cultural management training program in April/May on all aspects related to putting together a large concert of this scala. The training was provided by Ernst Herma, member of the ICC Commission of Namibia and former director of the Warehouse and the National Theatre of Namibia.

Indeed, International Jazz Day is not just a concert, but a collective event, both artistic and educational, to promote jazz music, jazz musicians, as well as related performing arts professions. Launch of the international dance festival MOVEMENT in Windhoek 🇳🇦🇫🇷

The French Embassy in Namibia, the Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (OYO), and the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) are thrilled to announce the launching of MOVEMENT, an international contemporary dance festival designed to contribute to the professionalization and structuring of the dance sector in Namibia. This ambitious year-long program, carried out by OYO with the support of FNCC, will bring together talents from Namibia, France (La Réunion), South Africa and Botswana across three distinct seasons :

From 9 to 13 June, the first season will the themed “Belong”, looking at inclusivity, and featuring the South African Unmute Dance Company. Featuring on June 12th a conversation with Unmute’s dancer Nadine Mckenzie, this first season will also celebrate International Albinism Awareness Day, through a performance at the National Theatre of Namibia on June 13th. 🇿🇦

From 16 to 20 August, France and the Réunion Island will be invited, around the theme “Become”. Focusing on youth, this theme will be presented at the National Theatre of Namibia on August 20th. 🇷🇪

Finally, artists from Botswana will be in the spotlight, around the theme “Beloved”, looking at gender, from 20th to 24th October. 🇧🇼

Each season will include workshops for professional dancers and upcoming artists, a conversation with a Namibian dancer to gain insight on creative processes, a performance in Katutura to bring dance closer to new audiences, and a final performance at the National Theatre of Namibia.

By sharing French expertise and experience to promote and professionalize the dance sector in Namibia, this project aims to build a sustainable future for this sector in Namibia, in line with the French and Namibian priorities to encourage cultural and creative industries. Movement is funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. Ombetja Yehinga Organisation
