Hutt Valley Model Engineering Society Inc We run the miniature railway for the public every Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm - weather permitting We encourage children of all ages to visit us.

The Hutt Valley Model Engineering Society comprises around forty members with a wide range of interests, from clocks to precision tools to miniature steam locomotives, traction engines and marine plant. We hold a general meeting on the first Wednesday of the month from 7.45 pm. The society operates a miniature railway for the public every Sunday between 1pm - 4pm (weather permitting), $2.00 single

ride - $10 six ride concession ticket - No EFTPOS available. We operate a mix of electric, diesel and live steam locomotives. Funds raised from the railway go towards Society projects and nominated charities.

This Rail Safety Week, KiwiRail and Tracksafe NZ are reminding everyone that the rail corridor is not meant for casual use. The corridor, typically extending five metres on either side of KiwiRail's tracks, along with railway bridges, tunnels, and yards, is off-limits to the public.

We might love trains in the model engineering world, but we keep safe by staying out of KiwiRail's rail corridor.

Trains are heavy, fast, and can’t stop quickly. Being on or near the tracks without permission isn’t just illegal, it can be deadly.

Since 2012, 185 lives have been lost in New Zealand’s rail corridor. Let’s work together to keep that number from growing.

Our miniature railway is looking for friendly volunteers to help keep the magic on track! Whether you're into trains, tinkering, talking to people, or just want to be part of a fun local project — we’d love to hear from you.

👷‍♂️ No experience needed – we’ll show you the ropes!
🎟 Roles include driving, track work, ticketing, events & more
📆 Mostly weekends
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 All ages welcome (under 16s with an adult)

It’s a great way to meet people, learn something new, and bring joy to families who visit.
