January 16–18, I planned and participated in a backcountry hut trip with , led by Cam Spies.
I planned this trip with the intention of making it a private JPL Expeditions group and worked to bring together 6–8 participants. In the end, one friend joined and two others signed up independently through CAG. While it wasn’t the private group I originally envisioned, the outcome was still a strong one.
With a small group of four, all at similar ability levels, the learning was excellent. We spent three days building practical backcountry skills, efficient skinning, transitions, kick turns, track setting, route finding, and avalanche awareness, including elements of AIARE 1–level material.
Instruction happened in the backcountry right outside the hut and through great conversations around the fire at night. The pace allowed us to slow things down, ask better questions, and connect technical skills with real-world decision making.
Planning it, learning alongside a small group, and making new connections made this a clear win for JPL Expeditions.

One of the perks of planning travel for a living is being able to move quickly when conditions line up. Early season snow, quiet slopes, solid rates, and a New England mountain town lit up for Christmas.

This week was about skiing in great conditions without the crowds, wandering town at night, beer and wings after long days, a stop at Lake Champlain Chocolate, and catching sunrise from the condo before heading out. It was also a good chance to get reacquainted with Stowe and the surrounding area as I think ahead to future trips.

These shoulder moments are often the sweet spot. More time outside, less noise, and a place that still feels easy.

A great week in Stowe. Plenty of snow, bluebird weather and long days on the mountain.

This is the kind of trip I enjoy planning, time outside, awesome terrain, and comfortable places to go back to at the end of the day.

More to come.

Getting videos like this all week, so when the conditions align, you have to go. ❄️🎿

Stowe has seen 22 inches of snow in the last week alone, bringing the season total to nearly 100 inches. It was too good to ignore. So, in true JPL Expeditions fashion, we pulled the trigger on a last-minute itinerary.

The plan: Fly into Boston Monday, link up with friends, and head straight to a spot just 10 minutes from the mountain. No overthinking, just action.

This trip is a perfect example of what we are building here. JPL Expeditions exists to remove the friction that usually stops people from saying "yes" to adventure. It’s about curating the logistics so that the only thing left to focus on is the connection with friends and the challenge of the mountain.

We believe that meaningful adventure rewards curiosity and effort. Sometimes that means planning months in advance, and sometimes it means chasing the storm.

Stay tuned for updates from Vermont. It’s going to be a deep week.

I’ve been working quietly on something that reflects how I already travel and the kind of experiences I value. I’m excited to share that I’ve started JPL Expeditions, a travel advisory focused on active trips with a comfortable, thoughtful style.

Adventure travel is where my passion sits, but I’ve also planned and experienced plenty of high-end luxury trips over the years. Both inform how I work. Some clients want skiing, cycling, fly fishing, or time in the mountains. Others want warm-water resorts or relaxed luxury with good food and comfort. I enjoy shaping both, and the balance feels natural.

If you ever want help planning a trip, or if someone in your world travels this way, I’d be glad to connect and see what fits.

For years I’ve built my life around meaningful time outside, whether that’s in the mountains, on a bike, or chasing warm-water days. JPL Expeditions is a natural extension of that.
My goal is simple, help people I know—and people I have yet to meet—plan trips that feel effortless and memorable. Active, comfortable, and rooted in the kind of experiences that stay with you long after you’re home.

If that sounds like your style of travel, I’d be glad to help shape your next trip.

Working together is simple.
We start with a short conversation about how you like to travel. I build options that align with your style and pace. You choose what fits. I handle the details so you can focus on the time outside, not the logistics.
No pressure, no automated blasts, just personal planning.

What I plan and design:
• Ski weeks and backcountry hut experiences
• Cycling and gravel adventures
• Fly fishing mountain and warm-water escapes
• Hiking and mountain town itineraries
• Tropical trips with a focus on active days and relaxed evenings

JPL Expeditions is my adventure travel advisory for active couples and close friends. I build trips that blend time outdoors with comfortable places to land, from mountain regions to warm-water destinations. Skiing, cycling, fly fishing, hiking, paddling, and exploring new places at your pace.
If you’re looking for a curated trip built around movement, scenery, and relaxed comfort, I’d be glad to help.
