Tune-in for some of the best riding yet - this Sunday, October 4th at 8:00 a.m. PDT (GMT−7) as we ride the Needles Highway, the Badlands, Crazy Woman Canyon & the Bighorns in an action-packed episode:

https://youtu.be/beQn0Vkr-RA

“After several days exploring the Black Hills, we point the bikes east and then west again, linking together some of the most memorable roads and landscapes of the trip so far.

From the granite spires and twisting pavement of Custer State Park and the Needles Highway, we drop into the strange, layered landscape of Badlands National Park before making our way back across South Dakota and into Wyoming.

From there, the ride only gets better.

We cut through Crazy Woman Canyon, cross the Bighorn Basin, climb back into the Bighorn Mountains through Shell Creek Canyon, and eventually pick up the Wyoming BDR as we continue north toward Burgess Junction.

Along the way, there are buffalo, traffic jams, questionable navigation, increasingly worn tires, wide-open prairie, gravel, mountain passes, and some of the best riding we’ve encountered anywhere in the West.

This one covers a lot of ground.”

As some of you may know, Titus Canyon has been closed for nearly four years - after a flash flood destroyed the road in 2022. Following an initial round of repairs, the Park Service temporarily reopened it for the summer of 2026 - giving us a narrow window to ride it before it closed again for another major round of reconstruction.

Only problem being, my Africa Twin is currently torn down for some much-needed TLC, and Titus is scheduled to close again October 2nd, until sometime in 2027.

But it just so happens, I was given the opportunity to test ride a 2026 CFMoto Ibex 450. So I strapped on my GIVI modular luggage, grabbed my camping gear, and set off for 3 days with my buddy Deano - who himself just purchased a Norden 901 and hadn’t yet had a chance to get it properly dirty.

Well… all I can say is that the DEEP gravel of Titus Canyon gave us both a proper work out!

ICYMI, Titus Canyon in Death Valley reopened earlier this year after nearly four years of closure - and it’s about to close again for more repairs starting October 2.

Naturally, Deano thought it would be the perfect place for me to test-ride a motorcycle.

Turns out… he was right. 😎

On the hunt for Custer State Park’s famous fuzzy cows… 🦬

We’d heard the herds were gathered somewhere around Barnes Canyon, so we left the pavement and went looking.

As it turns out, they weren’t particularly difficult to find - or especially concerned by our arrival. They simply carried on grazing, wallowing, and generally acting as though they owned the place.

Which, to be fair… they do.

Join us this Sunday, September 20th at 8:00 a.m. PDT (GMT−7) as we take the scenic route to South Dakota’s Black Hills: Riding the Backroads to Sturgis | Season 6 Episode 3

https://youtu.be/csQs4MCKfg0

“With Utah Valley baking at 107 degrees, we were back on the bikes bright and early - climbing into Provo Canyon in search of cooler air and continuing north toward Sturgis.

But the shortest route was never the plan.

In Episode 3 of Backroads of the West, we trade the interstate for some of the best motorcycle roads in Wyoming: winding through mountain valleys, crossing the Bighorn Basin and climbing the Cloud Peak Skyway to 9,666-foot Powder River Pass.

From there, we descend onto Wyoming’s eastern plains and continue toward Devils Tower before crossing into South Dakota for our first taste of the Black Hills and the cool shadows and tight corners of Spearfish Canyon.

It may not have been the fastest way to Sturgis…but it was unquestionably the better one.”

Boiling our way across “America’s Loneliest Road” - Highway 50. 🥵

Back in 1986, LIFE magazine dubbed this stretch of Nevada “The Loneliest Road in America,” even warning travelers they’d need survival skills to tackle it.

Forty years later… endless horizons, distant mountains, and long stretches of pavement with barely another soul in sight. Just us and a sun that seemed determined to cook us in our riding gear.

Lonely? Maybe. A little shade would’ve been better company.

The Long, Hot Road to Sturgis | Season 6 Episode 2

https://youtu.be/h_tfdXDGzKs

“With Rose’s newly built Honda CRF300L Rally loaded for its first major trip, we leave Los Angeles and point the motorcycles north toward Sturgis.

Searching for relief from triple digit heat, we head toward June Lake - where packed campgrounds and a questionable shortcut leave both motorcycles buried in the sand. From there, we visit the historic ghost town of Bodie, cross Monitor Pass and brave the crowds surrounding Lake Tahoe before climbing toward Virginia City.

Then we turn east across Nevada on “America’s Loneliest Road” - U.S. Highway 50 - passing Sand Mountain and crossing the Great Basin into Utah. By the time we descend into Utah Valley, the temperature has reached 107 degrees.

And we’re still only halfway (as the crow flies) to Sturgis.”
