Herve and Yves from Belgium are in Cape Town for the Cape marathon. I was fortunate to spend the day taking them on a tour of the Cape Peninsula. We visit penguins, Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope. Went for a great lunch at Dixies in Glencairn. On the way home we popped into Charlies Garage micro brewery in Long Beach , then via Chapmans Peak drive, we popped in to visit a rescue Seal in Hout Bay. Then back to Bluegumhill Guesthouse in Greenpoint.

Jeevan and Ashley, who were attending a conference at the Cape Town Convention Center, were presented with the opportunity to visit Cape Point. They had a six-hour window available for a tour of Cape Point. Fortunately, we were able to complete the tour within their allocated time. They were able to see and experience the beauty of the Cape Peninsula.

Congratulations!

Had a great day trip with Katherine (NY - USA) and Rebecca (London - UK). We started with a delicious breakfast at Groot Constantia wine farm, then headed to Muizenberg and Simon's Town for the penguins. Next up was Cape Point, and then we went back to Kalk Bay for lunch. We drove via Chapman's Peak and Hout Bay back to Seapoint. Katherine was super brave and even tested the cold Cape waters at Boulders Beach and Cape Point with a quick swim!

Laurie and Karin are photographers from the USA. They wanted to see a sunrise from Kalk Bay Harbour and the surrounding areas. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate, as it was overcast with light rain. They still managed to get some great pictures, though. I can't use their images, but I took a few of my own to give you an idea of what we experienced. Early morning coffee and hot almond croissants at Olympia Cafe made getting a bit wet totally worth it. From there off to Simons Town for the Penguines, Cape Point and end off the day with late lunch at Groot Constantia wine farm before heading home to Seapoint via Hout Bay.

I got to spend the day with Donna and John on a day tour to Cape Point. It was Donna's birthday, so that made it extra special. We started the day with a champagne breakfast at Groot Constantia wine farm. From there, we went to Muizenberg, Kalk Bay, and Simon's Town. We visited The Sweetest Little Thing for coffee and delicious pastries. Then it was off to the Penguins, Cape Point, Ostrich Farm, and some wine at Cape Point Vineyards. We headed back to Greenpoint via Chapman's Peak, catching a stunning sunset. Donna and John ended a perfect day at Butchers Grill in Mouille Point.

Visit to Groot Constantia wine farm with my guests Dimitri and Létitia Deneele from France. They enjoyed the chocolate and wine pairing experience.

Short History of Groot Constantia, established in 1685 by VOC Governor Simon van der Stel near Cape Town, is South Africa's oldest wine-producing farm. Renowned for its high-quality sweet dessert wine, known as "Constantia Wyn" or "Grand Constance," it achieved global fame in the 18th and 19th centuries, famously enjoyed by Napoleon, Frederick the Great, and mentioned in literature by Jane Austen and Charles Dickens.
Key Historical Milestones:
1685: Simon van der Stel is granted the land, establishing the estate for grape cultivation.
18th Century: Following Van der Stel's death in 1712, the estate was divided; the main portion was later acquired by the Cloete family in 1778, who expanded production and built the famed Cloete Cellar in 1791.
19th Century: Constantia wine became a favorite of European aristocracy and was exported widely. The Cape government purchased the estate in 1885 to serve as an agricultural model.
20th Century: A major fire destroyed the manor house in 1925, followed by restoration. The estate continued to operate, becoming a popular tourist destination and wine producer.
Today: Groot Constantia is a South African National Monument and a fully operational wine farm, with its historical buildings operating as museums.
