Wild Wings Safaris

Wild Wings Safaris For over 20 years, we've been guiding and designing African safaris shaped around the individual. Every safari we plan is shaped around the individual.

We share real wildlife sightings, insights from our travels across Southern and East Africa, and stories from a community that cares deeply about the wild. Wild Wings Safaris is a specialist African safari company with offices in South Africa and the UK. For over 20 years, we've designed tailor-made safaris across Southern and East Africa, built on first-hand experience and long-standing relations

hips with the lodges and guides we work with. Our team travels regularly to the properties we recommend so that our advice is practical, informed and balanced. We also operate our own guided safaris in South Africa's Kruger National Park, using custom open safari vehicles and highly qualified guides. This hands-on involvement keeps us closely connected to the realities of safari travel. We don't use templates, and we stay personally involved throughout the process. We are members of ABTA (UK) and SATSA (South Africa). Here we share real wildlife sightings from our guides, insights from our travels, and stories from a community of travellers who return to explore with us again.

Eric's parents travelled with us for his dad's retirement trip. Years later, they sent Eric our way. ❤️

Nearly 100 emails with Michael and one Kruger safari with Rufus later, Eric's already been peeking at the Serengeti.

We couldn't ask for much more than that.

Thank you, Eric.

"Wild Wings came highly recommended by my parents after they used them for my dad's retirement trip, and after our experience, I completely understand why.

From the very beginning, Michael was incredible to work with. Planning a trip like this involves a lot of details, questions, changes and moving parts—and I'm pretty sure we had close to 100 back-and-forth emails as Michael helped me plan, organize and book everything. He was patient, responsive and genuinely invested in making sure we had the experience we were hoping for.

Our guide, Rufus, was absolutely fantastic. He seemed to have a sixth sense when it came to navigating the Kruger traffic jams whenever there was a big cat sighting. Saw the Big 5 and a cheetah enjoying an impala kill. My favorite moment of the entire trip was watching him somehow predict where a mama lioness was going to cross the road with her four cubs. We ended up with a front-row view while many of the other vehicles missed it. Those are the moments you dream about when planning an African safari. I probably shouldn't share this but our morning tour one day which was supposed to be 3-4 hours, lasted 7.5. Plus, he made us ostrich stir fry - a first for us.

What really set Wild Wings apart, though, was how they supported us when faced with a situation that had the potential to completely derail a trip we'd been planning for years. On the morning we were flying from Johannesburg to Skukuza, we were dealt a medical emergency and would not make our flight. Michael was there and available to help. His responsiveness and willingness to jump in and help us navigate the situation made a stressful situation so much easier. He helped find a later flight and ensured that Rufus would be there. Five stars without hesitation.

From the planning process with Michael to the incredible experience with Rufus in Kruger, Wild Wings delivered an unforgettable trip. We would absolutely use them again and highly recommend them to anyone planning an African safari (have already peaked at a Serengeti trip🤞)." —Eric

Before heading out for the day, we check the headlines, send a few messages and find out what everyone else is up to. Wild dogs have their own version. Scent carries information about who's been around, while the pack is constantly communicating and checking in with one another. 🐾 Headlines checked. Messages exchanged. Time to get on with the day. 🎥 Nicky Firer

In May 2023, Simon went to Laikipia looking for a leopard.

Not just any leopard.

Giza Mrembo, whose name means “the beautiful darkness” in Swahili, is a rare melanistic leopard whose rosettes are still visible beneath her dark coat in the right light.

Simon found her.

And, fortunately for the rest of us, he had his camera with him. Since then, Giza's story has continued. She's now raising two golden-coated youngsters, and our updated blog catches up with what has happened since Simon photographed her in 2023.

Lights out for Mom and the cubs. Lights, camera, action for us. 🦁📹 They may have called it a day. We were quite happy to keep watching. 🎥 Simon Vegter
