ernational Airport it is an enjoyable two hour drive to the South Gate of Moremi Game Reserve, the heart of the Okavango Delta. We are also just two hours from the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park and the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, and a short distance from many of Botswana’s other world-famous safari destinations such as Chobe National Park. With 4WD vehicle hire you can enjoy an affordable self drive safari that allows you to enjoy your chosen combination of safari destinations with camping and/or lodge accommodation. Our extensive local knowledge allows us to provide itinerary suggestions, and we also book accommodation on behalf of our clients to ensure a seamless and hassle-free self drive safari experience. We also offer drop-off and collection services from Kasane, Gaborone and Windhoek, and each client will receive a comprehensive handover to ensure that they understand the vehicle, the terrain, and the awe-inspiring safari experience that lies ahead!

Another decision to make when booking a trip is how self sufficient you want to be with camping and catering.

Some clients want to be totally independent and camp and cook their own food and some prefer to spend their nights in lodges and there are lots of clients who choose to mix the two. There is no right or wrong way 😀 the mix of accommodation types totally depends on a number of factors including client wishes, time of year and availability.

To cater for different wishes, we offer two different vehicle set ups for clients - standard equipped and fully equipped. All vehicles come as 'standard equipped' which includes a full set of recovery equipment including hi-lift jack, tow rope, spade and sand ladders plus fridge/freezer, water tank, spare tyres and satellite phone.

There is also a table and chairs, cutlery, crockery and metal tumblers and goblets (much more practical in the bush than glass!) and a thermos for hot drinks.

With a standard equipped vehicle you can store and prepare cold food only, which is ideal for breakfast and lunch but clients will need to stay at a lodge for hot food and water.

In addition to all the above, our fully equipped vehicles also include a braai/BBQ grill, cool box, hand basin and dishwashing basin, shade awning as well as a full range of cooking utensils including a kettle, pots and pans and other essentials such as oven gloves, chopping board, colander and a potato masher!! In fact, everything you need to create a delicious al fresco meal.

All this equipment is carefully packed in the vehicle in an absolute feat of spatial and packing optimisation ready to be used on your adventure 😃

We have seen clients tackle some challenging driving conditions this year and unless you are an experienced off-road driver, we recommend that you take our 4 x 4 driving course before your self drive safari.

Our unique driver training programme offered in Maun allows you to brush up on your 4×4 self drive skills for a hassle-free holiday. The driver training programme
incorporates a few hours instruction under the watchful eye of one of the Travel Adventures off road driving instructors.

During the course you will be briefed in detail on:

🚙 Driving in deep sand
🚙 Driving in mud
🚙 Driving through water
🚙 Advice on how to deal with wild animals (i.e.elephants in the road)
🚙 When to drive in 2 wheel drive
🚙 When to drive in 4 wheel drive high range
🚙 When to drive in 4 wheel drive low range
🚙 Recovering vehicle from Sand, Mud and Water (season dependant)
🚙 Changing tyres and the correct use of recovery equipment including high lift and /or air jacks.

This service is available in addition to any self drive safari or 4×4 vehicle hire and
must be booked in advance.

It's a bird bonanza!

We were looking back through some guest pictures and thought that a few of Tessa Murray 's amazing bird pictures deserved to be seen.

These show some of the birds having a tasty snack 😂 or picking up various bits and pieces, the lovely colours of the Marico bee eater and in the case of the Jacana - their amazing long legs and feet - perfect for literally running on water 😲

So how do you go about planning and booking a trip with Travel Adventures Botswana? You may have seen an ad, a social media post or have done an online search and found us and now you want to get in touch.

The best way to get in touch to start with is via email (see below) or by using our online Booking Form.

This gives us an idea of some of the basic details about your trip – times of year you can travel, length of time you can travel for, the number and age of guests, rough budget, interests and any other requirements. But don’t worry if you don’t know any (or all) of this – or would rather speak on the phone or WhatsApp first – we can definitely do this and we are happy for you to contact us any way you would like 😃

How long does it take to plan a trip?
It depends! If you just want to book a vehicle from us, the process is very quick. It’s booking accommodation and campsites that takes more time. Please allow extra planning time for visiting countries other than Botswana eg Zimbabwe or Namibia or if you plan to visit during high season when there’s extra demand for accommodation.

How far in advance do you have to book?
The popular campsites eg Moremi book up a year in advance so if that’s somewhere you definitely want to go, then you need to bear that in mind and we are already taking bookings for 2027 😀 But don't worry, there are lots of other options that don’t need such a long lead time and we can advise about these.

What else do I need to know?
We can advise on flights, visas, vaccinations, insurance, what to bring with you and we have information on our website – on the ‘Other Useful Information’ page that provides more information.

It can seem like a lot to organise, but our reservations team has over 40 years’ experience in booking safaris in Botswana and neighbouring countries so they are able to guide, advise and help you so that you have the very best trip you can.

We thought it was time to introduce some of our amazing staff!

There’s a huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to get our lovely LandCruisers ready for each of our guests and we could not operate without our fantastic team that do so much work to make sure that our clients have the best -and safest - possible trips.

Introducing Tshepho – he has been with us since 2018 and has many vital roles including meeting & greeting clients, mapping out routes and overseeing the office and operations 👋

Next up is Small – who has been our incredible head mechanic since 2019. His consistency and dedication to his work means that our vehicles are always fully prepped and ready to go on safari 👋

And finally, we’d like you meet our newest staff member, Socks. He joined us last year as a meet and greet driver and is already a key part of the TAB team 👋

We’re know that some of our clients who follow us, have already met them when they have been on safari with us – and we have had some great feedback about them too 😃

Perfect for couples, solo travellers - we are providing accommodation for solo travellers at no additional supplement - and families looking for a genuine wildlife and wilderness experience in the heart of Botswana's best game-viewing areas.

Although the itinerary is fixed, there are different routes to each campsite and travellers will all meet up at the same site at the end of the day. Each vehicle will be
supplied with a walkie talkie so driving tips and wildlife spotting information can be shared throughout the day.

Lovely pictures of our vehicles from Maria Florenza's recent trip.

So great to see the LandCruiser on the ferry crossing the Boteti Riviera at Khumaga. The ferry only operates when the water level is high, so Maria and family were super lucky to be able to ride on it!

What a fun way to cross a river 😁 it's definitely not something you do every day 😆
