The oldest residents at Vergelegen W**es aren’t the people.

They’re the enormous camphor trees planted during the early 1700s—living monuments that have stood here for more than three centuries.

If you visit, don’t walk straight from the car to the tasting room. Take the slower route through the historic gardens and stand beneath them for a moment.

Some places are beautiful. Others make you feel how much time has passed.

These aren’t simply very photogenic ducks.

Vergenoegd Löw The W**e Estate's Indian Runner ducks form part of the farm’s natural pest-control team, moving through the vineyards in search of snails and other unwanted visitors.

Their famous daily walk has become one of the most unusual sights in the Cape W**elands—and a brilliant reminder that farming can work with nature rather than against it.

Our recommendation: check the duck-parade time before planning your visit. You really don’t want to arrive five minutes after several hundred ducks have clocked off.
