Sometimes it comes down to the person driving.

When Ryan booked with us, Monique put him and his group with Anthea for a full Peninsula day. Here's what he wrote:

"Monique was incredibly accommodating and set us up with Anthea, who was incredibly adept at reading and adapting to the crowd. Amazing 5-star experience and would do it again 100 times over!" — Ryan Gaytan, via TripAdvisor
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

That "reading the crowd" line is really the whole job. Knowing when to talk and when not to. When to pull over. When to skip a stop because everyone's had enough and the light is better somewhere else. When to pause for the two penguins nobody else has spotted yet.

Anthea's been doing this for years. Monique's been arranging days like this for longer. Between them, a lot of people have been handed the day they were hoping for.

A day in the Constantia Valley, taken slowly.

South Africa's oldest wine route runs through a fold in the mountains just twenty minutes from the city — five estates set among vineyards that have been producing wine since 1685, when the first vines went into the ground at what is now Groot Constantia.

We begin at Steenberg, established in 1682, where the tasting rooms open onto the vineyards and the light comes in low across the terrace. From there to Constantia Uitsig — a glass-walled winery where you can watch the winemaking happen, then step into the old barrel room to feel three centuries of the trade in the same breath.

Groot Constantia next: a living museum and Provincial Heritage site, with wines that have travelled further than most of the guests who taste them.

Lunch on the terrace at Constantia Glen, where the vineyard climbs up toward Constantia Nek.

And then, near the end of the day, Beau Constantia. Panoramic views across the valley to False Bay, and on a clear afternoon, all the way to the Helderberg. The estate calls it the highlight of the day. Our guests don't argue.

The pace is slow because it needs to be. Winter here means fewer people at the tasting bar, more time with the sommelier, and the kind of quiet that lets a wine speak for itself.

Everyone photographs the pink house. Almost no one knows the story behind it 🎨

Bo-Kaap has been home to Cape Town's Cape Malay community for three centuries — descendants of people brought here from Indonesia, Malaysia, India and East Africa. When freedom came in the 1830s, families painted their houses in defiant, joyful colour.

That's why we take guests here first thing in the morning, before the crowds arrive. The colour is just the beginning — the story is what stays with you.

"Had a great experience with Cape Town Day Tours. I'd recommend them to anyone who is visiting Cape Town." — Tebogo Mashilo

Tebogo spent his day with us in the Constantia Valley — the original Cape winelands, just fifteen minutes from the city centre. Older than Stellenbosch, quieter than Franschhoek, and often the one guests remember most.

A full day on the Peninsula isn't a route — it's a rhythm 🌊

Coffee in hand along the Atlantic seaboard. Chapman's Peak in the morning light. Cape Point at midday where two oceans meet. Lunch in Simon's Town by the water. Boulders Beach in the afternoon with the penguins right there. And golden hour on the coast to close.

Nine hours. Your pace. Your questions. Your stops.

Bo-Kaap has been home to Cape Town's Cape Malay community for three centuries — descendants of people brought here from Indonesia, Malaysia, India and East Africa. They carried their food with them, and it's all still here: the spice blends, the samoosa folds, the recipes that survived the crossing.

On our Bo-Kaap Cooking Experience, you don't just taste it — you learn it. Zainie welcomes you into her home kitchen, pulls out her spice tin, and shows you what goes with what and why. You knead, you fold, you fry, you sit down together and eat what your hands just made. Then you walk out into the streets with cumin still on your clothes.

Winter is the season for this. Warm kitchens, long lunches, no rush.

Some birthday gifts arrive in a box. Others arrive at 3:30am 🎈

Alleena flew in from the UK with a surprise for her cousin's 50th — sunrise from a hot air balloon over the Cape Winelands. Anthea collected them before dawn, they watched the balloon inflate in the dark, and climbed into the basket just as the sky began to soften. Vineyards drifting past below. Mountains catching the first light. A glass of fizz on landing.

"If you are in Cape Town please put this on your bucket list." — Alleena, UK

The best time to visit Cape Town? It might be the one no one talks about.

Winter here is gold, not grey. Cape Point without the crowds. Chapman's Peak drives with no one else on the road. Whales calving off the coast. Long vineyard lunches by a fireplace. And guides who actually have the time to stop, chat, and take the scenic route.

If you've been holding out for peak season, let us change your mind ❄️

From Italy, with a story about ostriches

Sarah and her family joined Neil Ferguson for a private Boulders Beach and Cape Point day — and what stood out wasn't just the penguins or the Cape of Good Hope sign. It was the pace. The room to breathe. The way Neil stopped for every photo, every wildlife sighting, every question along the way.

"His friendly manner, local knowledge, and attention to making sure we had the best possible experience made the day truly memorable."

Thank you Sarah — we'd love to welcome you back one day.
