Stop everything. Whale season has officially begun. 🐋✨
That breach you just watched? That’s a Humpback whale off the coast of Gansbaai — and right now, the Southern Right whales have arrived too. The Cape waters are alive, and there is absolutely nowhere else on earth you need to be.
Here’s what makes this season so extraordinary:
🐋 Southern Right Whales arrive in Gansbaai from June and stay through November. These gentle giants come to the protected bays to rest, nurse their calves and court their mates. Get close enough and you’ll hear them breathe.
🐋 Humpback Whales are the acrobats — breaching, fin-slapping, and putting on displays that will leave you completely speechless. Just like this one.
🐋 Mother and calf encounters from July through October are in a league of their own. A Southern Right mother and her calf, curious and unhurried, right alongside the boat. It changes people.
And the good news? You don’t have to choose one or the other. Both species share these waters — and from Gansbaai Harbour, you’re in the heart of it all.
We’ve partnered with the incredible team at IvanhoeSea Safaris — Gansbaai’s most experienced whale watching crew — to bring our private tour guests out on the water this season. These are the people who know these whales. Who read the ocean. Who will get you as close as the whales allow.
This is not a bucket list tick. This is a full body experience. 🌊
🗓️ Season runs June through November. Bookings are already filling up.
