Thanks to the Cape Town Guide Association of which I am a proud member I was introduced to Anna Rosholt .

I was invited to visit her beautiful shop and studio on trendy Long Street and participate in a build your own charm workshop.

What a fabulous offering and local South African story not to mention a wonderful way to create a souvenir/memory of a visit to Cape Town. We loved the specific Cape Town references for the different coloured beads. From the warm hospitality to the bespoke packaging this was a 5 star experience on every level.

This past week I have been reflecting on the notion of being an entrepreneur and having a small owner operated business.

As I visited and researched trusted tourism partners I realised that in most if not all instances the original founders, owners are integrally involved which is what makes the particular product so special.

Especially in this age of AI it is the personal, human and authentic that we all want and what we trust.

From enjoying a personal barrel tasting with winemaker Rodney Zimba at to saying hi to Gerard Holden awaiting clients arriving by helicopter it is the personal that makes travel special and memorable.

As the owner of a boutique hotel recently shared with me - we keep our property small and intimate - the way we like to travel.
