Does South Africa have the best wine tourism offering in the world?

I tend to think so - but then again I am biased. However, having travelled to the US, Australia, France, Germany and Bulgaria through the lens of wine, I do believe we can hold our heads up high.

When setting up I started with a tagline of ‘Select Wine and Art Tours’, followed by ‘Private Wine Art Safaris’ as I recognised that the bulk of our clients did not travel to South Africa for either wine or art, but primarily to go on safari - a Swahili word meaning journey.

We then started offering urban art safari, wine safaris, food safaris, real safaris, helicopter wine safaris - you name it! Now our tagline is ‘Curated Travel’.

All our trips are bespoke and tailored to our clients’ interests. We make a point of researching and knowing what products are out there in order to curate a special private safari/journey to South Africa . That most certainly will include a visit to the famed Cape Winelands. do a fabulous wine safari.

Our carefully chosen lodges always have fantastic wine lists and of course no visit to the bush is complete without the obligatory sundowner.

Doing what I love and loving what I do…

One of the incredible blessings of having founded is the freedom of being an entrepreneur and investing in researching and advising our valued clients on the best of South African tourism.

It is vital to have one’s finger on the pulse of new developments and updates on new and old suppliers.

There is so much exciting stuff happening on the Garden Route and I will be compiling a local update over the next few weeks.

Hosting repeat clients last week the comment was made ‘ Melissa has a whole tiara of hidden gems.’

I loved the expression - and the compliment- but it got me thinking about why hidden gems are hidden and frankly they probably don’t want to remain so!

The pics were taken at - a seriously wonderful hidden gem - the best pizzas, relaxed feel, calming views, friendly service and magical wine cellar underneath.

We had the enormous and unexpected pleasure of tasting a Thelema Sauvignon Blanc from 1990 - a sample given to the legendary Jan Boland Coetzer way back when... The fruit, flavour and overall deliciousness was extraordinary given the age.

Thanks Ollie - What a treat - and frankly hidden gems are about yet to be discovered delights.

We would love to share some others in our tiara with our discerning clients from around the world.

The are a hidden gem and wonderful public garden in Cape Town.

A few times a year on the first Saturdau of the month myself and a few others volunteer and lead a guided 1 hour tour around these gardens, which I regard as the most international garden in Cape Town.

It was with the famous historian and author Thomas Packenham, a relative by marriage, that I first visited this wonderful Arboretum in the heart of Claremont next to .

I am so enjoying his latest book ‘The Tree Hunters.’ Second image.

‘All art is an imitation of nature ’ so said Seneca the Elder…

After an indulgent feast of art this past week it was wonderful to step into nature and a glorious hike in at Silvermine.

The majesty of the Cape mountains is astounding - spot the orange paraglider dwarfed by the backdrop of sea and fynbos covered mountains…

Remember to always hike in a group and then the best treat - a swim in the dam at the end, gulping down the fresh water and revelling in the astounding beauty of Cape nature.
